Yesterday I went to
Moreshwar and Chintamani temples. Both these temples are dedicated to Lord
Ganesha and are among the eight Ashtavinayak temples in Maharashtra. I read somewhere that the idols which were placed in Ashtavinayak temples were not made by man and it is believed that Lord
Ganesha himself manifested in each of these places.
Moreshwar temple is situated in Morgaon and is around 50-60 km from Pune (Not sure
about the exact distance as Anky bhaiya was driving the car :-)). The temple is
built from black stone and has a beautiful architecture. There was a Nandi
sitting in front of the temple entrance and a massive pillar made in stone of
oil lamps inside the temple complex.
We reached the temple at around 6.15 pm and that
time queue was not long. When I entered in the place where the main Ganesha
idol was placed, I was mesmerized by its beauty. In almost every corner of the
temple, statues of Lord Ganesha were kept.
Chintamani temple is
situated in Theur village and is around 22 km from Pune. The temple hall is
made up of wood. A big bell can also be seen in the temple.
There are a number of smaller temples in the
temple complex: Shiva temple, Vishnu-Lakshmi temple, Hanuman temple.
One thing which I liked about both these temples
that there is no special line for VIP people and in fact in Moreshwar temple I
saw one hoarding in which it was mentioned that “we do not entertain any
special Darshan facility” :-) :-)
