Are we really equal???

Prior to a few days ago, I always believed that there is no task in this world which we girls cannot do. Both boys and girls are equal and are just like the two sides of the same coin.

From the childhood, me and my sister started doing all the work related to banking, bill submission, etc. I still remember, when I was in class V, I guided my friend regarding how to deposit and withdraw money from a bank. All these things made me confident and self-dependent girl from the starting and I never realized that YES there are some tasks that we cannot do!!!

My mother always insisted that for a girl it is very essential to stand on her own feet so that if anything bad happens; she can fight against it and survive. Because of that in my home, the main focus was given to education. I completed my studies in one of the best school and college in Lucknow. After completing my graduation in Lucknow, I got selected in one of the top universities in Delhi. At that time I was confused that whether I should go there or not. Money was also the main constrained and all other relatives were against it. They told my mother why you are sending her to Delhi? Indirectly she is a girl only!!!

But my mother and sister encouraged me to join that course....

I spent near about 6 years in Delhi, Noida and Hyderabad there I realized that there are many things which we cannot do!!!

Now my realization is converted into a belief!!!!

For example; a woman can never show brutality which those men show by raping a girl in a moving bus. A woman can never consider any other human being as an object to be used. Sometimes we cannot oppose if someone misbehaves with us because it may lead to the threat of acid attack on us!!! In Gurgaon, I slapped one man on the bus who continually misbehaving with me and my friend but strangely no one comes to our rescue or opposed it!!! When I told this incident to my other friends they warned me not to slap/argue with anyone as it may lead to some other horrible incident…

I don’t know about other women, but after the Delhi rape incident I will think twice before stepping out of my house at night because even public transport means are not safe for us.  Unfortunately in some cases, women are not safe at their home too!!!

It is ironical that in our country we worship women as Goddesses and on the other hand the same women become victim of rape, domestic violence, dowry, molestation, female feticides, etc.

Now my belief that both men and women are equal has been changed. We are NOT EQUAL until or unless we change the mentality of our society. Some section of it still believes that it’s a woman who provokes a man to do horrible acts like rape, domestic violence. So indirectly a woman is responsible for everything bad happens to her.  Oh God!!! In what kind of society I am living in???
